Perry wins House District 124 election

AUGUSTA Democratic candidate Joseph C. Perry Sr. was elected to the House District 124 seat in the special election Tuesday, March 12, 2019, announced Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap.

The Elections Division of the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions completed certification of the official voting results today, confirming that Perry bested Republican candidate Thomas M. White, 719 to 390 votes. A total of 1,120 ballots were cast in the special election for House District 124, which includes parts of both Bangor and Orono. Both candidates are residents of Bangor.

Tuesday's special election was necessitated by the resignation of Rep. Aaron Frey of Bangor, who declined to take the oath of office after his re-election, having been elected by the Legislature to the position of attorney general, on Dec. 5, 2018.

Perry will be sworn in to serve the remainder of Frey's term, through November 2020.
