New Percent for Art project to be unveiled at Cultural Building

Place: Atrium, Maine Cultural Building, Augusta
Time: 12:30 p.m.

Maine artist Elizabeth A. Busch, of Glenburn, (www.elizabethbusch.com) will present her latest commissioned artwork to the State of Maine in the Atrium of the Cultural Building in Augusta, on Monday, Sept. 21 at 12:30 p.m.

The art, entitled ?Home,? is a second-generation Percent For Art project for the Cultural Building. ?Home? will replace the original work commissioned from Busch from 1990 that was also displayed in the Atrium.

The event will be hosted by Maine State Librarian James Ritter and Maine State Archivist David Cheever, and will feature remarks from the artist and from Maine Arts Commission Director Julie Richard.

?Home? is Busch?s impressionistic interpretation of Maine, featuring Mt. Katahdin at the top of the piece, as well as potato fields, azalea gardens, marshes and the Maine coast.  The work is a modern tapestry of UV acetate panels and strips that are colored with acrylic medium, pure pigment and mica powders. After weaving her tapestry, Busch cut and sewed the 13'-6"x 13'-0" work into nine panels, sewing the edges and suspending each panel from steel armatures.
