Electronic Lien Release Service Now Available

Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap reminds lending institutions they now have the ability to release their liens on motor vehicle title records through an online service.

?

AUGUSTA – The new online service is free and available to all InforME subscribers (http://www.maine.gov/informe/).  InforME is the State of Maine’s provider for online information and services such as the motor vehicle title look-up and the online vehicle registration renewal program, Rapid Renewal.

?This service marks a new milestone in expediting what has been a very paper and time-intensive process,? said Dunlap. ?Establishing this new electronic service can take days and weeks off the timeline of a critical process that insures the integrity of loans and the liens that back them.?

There are two options available through this service; lien releases may be processed individually using a secure web-based process or in a batch through a file transfer process using a secure FTP site.  Either option eliminates the requirement to send paper reports to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) and will speed up the lien release process for customers.

Feedback from several institutions already using the service has been uniformly positive.
