Secretary of State Charles E. Summers, Jr. to Recognize the Vassalboro Union Camp Meetings Association for 100 Years of Incorporation

AUGUSTA, Maine -- Secretary of State Charlie Summers will honor the Vassalboro Union Camp Meetings Association with a certificate for achieving 100 years of incorporation. Deputy Secretary of State Julie Flynn will present the certificate at a ceremony on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 10:00 AM. 

The Vassalboro Union Camp Meetings Association is a Christian organization located on Webber Pond.  Over the years the grounds have been used for religious retreats and summer camps for children.  The association currently includes 12 privately owned cottages. Annual dues are collected to maintain the grounds and the community chapel. 

The same year the Vassalboro Union Camp Meetings Association was incorporated many other notable events occurred, including the ground breaking of Fenway Park in Boston, the opening of the New York Public Library, the first celebration of International Women’s Day, and the birth of Jean Harlow, Ginger Rogers, Ronald Reagan, Lucille Ball, and Roy Rogers.

The Division on Corporations within the Department of the Secretary of State maintains records for over 80,000 business entities and nonprofit corporations.

Corporations celebrating 100 years of incorporation in Maine during 2011 are the Arbutus Grange No. 450; the Chelsea Grange; the Maine Council of Churches; the Ogunquit Fire Company; the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce; the Free Public Library Association of Vassalboro; J.E.L., Inc.; North Haven Grange No. 496; the Orchard Grove Cemetery Association; the Association Co-Operative Du Conseil Chagnon No. 120; the Women’s Educational And Industrial Union of Saco; the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Hancock County; the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club; the Cliff Island Library Club; the East Sangerville Grange No. 177; Allen, Sterling & Lothrup; the Bailey Island Library; the Clearwater Lake Improvement Association; Consumers Fuel Company; Phillips Public Library; and the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.
