Wabanaki Recognition Plate
Wabanaki recognition license plates are available to members of the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, Maliseet and Micmac Tribes in Maine.

Q: How much does the Wabanaki registration plate cost?
A: The fee is $35.00 for vehicle registered up to 6,000 pounds and $37.00 for vehicles registered from 6,001 to 10,000 pounds. There is no additional specialty plate fee. The plates are issued in a unique numbering sequence, beginning with 101-AFA. There are no low digit plates available.
Vanity plates are available in the Wabanaki plate series with a maximum of seven characters. The fee is an additional $25.00 above the registration fee. Wabanaki vanity plates cannot duplicate a vanity plate that is already issued in another class of plate. You may search and order a vanity plate online.
Q: Are there any special requirements?
A: Applicants must submit an application signed by a tribal official from a federally recognized tribe within the Wabanaki Confederacy proving the applicant's membership in the tribe.
Q: Where can the Wabanaki plates be purchased?
A: At all Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle branch offices or by mailing a copy of your registration and the Certification of Membership form (MV-18) to: Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Registration Unit, 29 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333.
