Q: How much does the Support Animal Welfare specialty plate cost?

A: The fee is $20.00 in addition to the regular registration fee when first purchasing the plates. Each renewal is an additional $15.00. There will be no reservation period and no low digit plates will be available for issuance. The plates will be issued in a unique numbering sequence, beginning with 101-AMA through 999-AMZ.

Vanity plates are available in the Support Animal Welfare specialty plate series with a maximum of six characters, plus one space or dash in the sequence. The fee is an additional $25.00 above the registration fee. Animal Welfare vanity plates cannot duplicate a vanity plate this already issued in another class of plate. You may search and order a vanity plate online.

Q: Where does the money go?

A: The proceeds from the Support Animal Welfare specialty plate will be equally distributed between the Animal Welfare Auxiliary Fund and the Companion Animal Sterilization Fund.

Q: Where can the Support Animal Welfare plates be purchased?

A: At all Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle Branch Offices and at many town offices. If the plates are not available in your town, they can be purchased at the nearest branch office or by mailing a copy of your registration and a check for $20 ($45 for vanity) made payable to the Secretary of State to: Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Specialty Plate Clerk, 29 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333.
