Effective September 12, 2009, Maine will be issuing the new Autocycle license plate. An autocycle is an enclosed motorcycle having no more than 3 wheels in contact with the ground. An autocycle must meet the general motorcycle inspection standards, except those standards that do not apply due to the design of the vehicle. An autocycle is equipped with: safety belts for all passengers; a roll bar; a steering wheel or tiller; and brakes on a least 2 main wheels.

Q: How much does Autocycle plate cost?
A: The registration fee for an Autocycle registration fee is $21.00, in addition to the excise tax due to your town of legal residence. The plates will be issued in a unique numbering sequence, beginning with 11BCP through 999BCP.
Autocycle vanity plates are not allowed.
Q: Where can the Autocycle plate be purchased?
A: At the Maine Bureau of Motor Vehicle Main Office. Town offices and Motor Vehicle Branch Offices will process renewals only. Registrations may also be obtained by mailing a copy of your registration and a check for $21 made payable to the Secretary of State to: Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Registrations, 29 State House Station, Augusta, Maine 04333.
