The Ellsworth American reported that Gouldsboro received a $55,500 Habitat Restoration Planning Grant from the Maine Coastal Program to conduct a resource inventory and hydrologic study in the natural areas along Corea Road at Sand Cove and along Grand Marsh Bay Road at the southern edge of Grand Marsh Bay.
Gouldsboro Coastal Resilience Committee Chairman Bill Zoellick said that the project will provide Gouldsboro with the basic geographical, hydrologic, and natural resource information it needs to plan and design improvements to Corea Road and Grand Marsh Bay Road. Zoellick said the grant-funded project will give Gouldsboro the information it needs to begin work toward strengthening resilience at the location by providing them with the data required to make judgments about the level of risk at the location and affordable, feasible ways to reduce that risk
“The Maine Coastal Program and similar programs within the Maine Office of Community Affairs are essential to enabling small communities to respond to the challenges associated with rapid demographic, environmental, and economic changes,” Zoellick said. “The town is grateful for this grant and the other assistance that MOCA has provided over the past few years.
