AUGUSTA – On July 1, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law legislation sponsored by Rep. Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, that will better equip those who menstruate with the knowledge they need to help navigate menopause and make informed decisions about their bodies and health.
AUGUSTA – A measure sponsored by Rep. Holly Eaton, D-Deer Isle, to create a pilot program for the testing of biotoxins in cultured scallops is now law. Gov. Janet Mills signed the measure on July 1.
“I want to thank everyone who made this possible – the growers, advocates and organizations who believe in the future of scallop farming here in Maine,” said Eaton. “Scallop farming holds real promise for diversifying our fisheries and supporting our working waterfront communities, and I am so pleased to see this idea become reality.”

Michael Brennan, D-Portland, that would support Maine’s free health clinics, increase reading and math proficiency in public schools and reduce rates of student homelessness received final support by the House and Senate last Wednesday, June 25. The bills now await final action by Gov. Janet Mills.
LD 70 would provide funding of $50,000 in fiscal years 2025-26 and 2026-27 for Maine’s five free health clinics.

Susan Collins to reject a provision in the reconciliation bill currently moving through Congress that would prohibit states from regulating artificial intelligence (AI) for the next 10 years.
