Moody’s upgrades Maine’s outlook from “stable” to “positive”

Governor Janet Mills and State Treasurer Henry Beck announced today that Moody’s Investors Service and S&P Global Ratings, global companies that analyze and issue reports of credit worthiness, have affirmed their strong credit ratings on the State of Maine’s general obligation debt. Moody’s affirmed their Aa2 rating and upgraded their outlook from stable to positive. S&P affirmed their AA rating and stable outlook.

Governor Janet Mills announced today she has sworn in Carolyn “Carrie” Gilbert of Cape Elizabeth to serve a six-year term on the Maine Public Utilities Commission (PUC). Governor Mills’ nomination of Gilbert, an expert on energy policy and economics, received unanimous support from the Maine State Senate.

“Carrie brings a wealth of experience in energy policy and economics to the Maine Public Utilities Commission,” said Governor Janet Mills. “I thank Carrie for her willingness to serve and the Senate for unanimously supporting her nomination.”

Washington, D.C. – The U.S. Climate Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of 25 governors committed to fighting climate change, has elected Governor Janet Mills to serve as its Co-Chair.

Following its meeting today, Maine’s nonpartisan Revenue Forecasting Committee (RFC) is expected to upgrade the State’s General Fund revenue forecast for the current biennium, which ends on June 30, 2023, by $223 million. It is also upgrading revenue projections for Fiscal Years 2024-2025 by $71 million. As RFC finalizes its report in the coming days, these projections are subject to further adjustment.

Governor Janet Mills and Attorney General Aaron Frey released the following statements today after the Supreme Court issued a stay of the Texas mifepristone decision. The stay means that mifepristone remains accessible without restriction in all states and territories where abortion is legal, including Maine as the decision undergoes further review in the courts.

Governor Janet Mills announced that she tested positive for COVID-19 today. The Governor received a positive result after experiencing a scratchy throat this morning. She will isolate for a minimum of five days, consistent with Maine and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

“Other than a scratchy throat, I feel fine,” said Governor Mills. “I will work remotely over the next few days and I look forward to getting back to the office later this week.”

Governor Janet Mills today signed into law a $9.8 billion current services budget that will ensure the continued operations of State government for the next biennium. The Governor also signed a proclamation calling the Legislature back into session next Wednesday, April 5, 2023.
