SAT: Using Assessment to Strengthen Instruction
English Language Arts and Mathematics
9-12
Presented by the Maine Department of Education and College Board
Once a year, grade 11 (third year) students are assessed in ELA and mathematics with the SAT. While Maine’s assessment, the SAT, has purpose and use in the wider world, understanding the role of this assessment information in a balanced system makes the experience and the data more meaningful to educators. During this full day session, we will:
- Understand the SAT sub-score categories
- Explore the connections to and implications for content areas beyond math and ELA
- Unpack each category to better understand alignment to standards
- Experience various item constructs and how they can be useful in the classroom
- Explore methods to evaluate cognitive demand to promote growth through productive struggle and challenging tasks.
- Engage in a protocol to review multiple data sources to support curriculum development.
Participants will bring
- user name and password to the College Board K-12 Score Reporting portal with DETAILED level access provided by the District Assessment Coordinator (DAC).
- local assessment data.
- a fully charged laptop.
- an open mind and willingness to learn.
