- Legacy Assessment Data
-
The Maine Department of Education is currently developing a new reporting environment to serve as a Data Warehouse for current and future data. The new Data Warehouse will allow users to asses Maine school performance data and make comparisons to other schools, districts, and the entire state. It will also contain data on school spending, Maine student populations, and staff members working in Maine schools.
- NAEP - Nations' Report Card
-
The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), first administered in 1969, is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what US students know and can do in subjects such as mathematics, reading, science, and writing. Standard administration practices are implemented to provide a common measure of student achievement.
Teachers, principals, parents, policymakers, and researchers all use NAEP results to assess progress and develop ways to improve education in the United States. The results of NAEP are released as The National Report Card, and are available for the nation, states, and in some cases, urban districts.
NAEP is a congressionally mandated project administered by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences (IES).
An example of how data collected from the NAEP assessment is used is provided in theYouTube video, Spotlight on Student Achievement Gaps published by the National Assessment Governing Board (NAGB).
NAEP results are available on the Nations Report Card website. The NAEP Data Explorer, NAEP Questions Tool, and NAEP ITEM Maps are accessible on the NAEP Data Tools landing page. The NAEP Questions Tool allows teachers to explore and use released items and/or create online quizzes. If you are curious and just want to try out some NAEP questions, select the “Try It Now” option.
