Filing Campaign Finance Reports

Candidates registered with the Commission must file their campaign finance reports electronically. Information entered into the e-filing system is not made available to the public until the report is filed by the candidate or treasurer. To find out more about e-filing, please contact the Candidate Registrar assigned to the legislative district for the candidate.

Please visit Maine Campaign Finance Disclosure to login or register as a candidate or committee member.

48-Hour Reporting Period

During this time, certain transactions (contributions, loans, expenditures, unpaid debts and expenditures) must be reported with in 48 hours on the Commission's eFiling website. The threshold amounts to file are dependent on the office sought.

Reporting Threshold

Receiving a contribution

(due to contribution limits, certain contributions may be made only by the candidate or their spouse/domestic partner)

$10,000 Governor
$5,000 Senate
$2,500 County
$1,500 House
$1,500 Municipal

Making an expenditure or incurring an unpaid debt

$10,000 Governor
$5,000 Senate
$2,500 County
$1,500 House
$1,500 Municipal

The report must be filed regardless of whether you have an invoice or have made a payment on a purchase. If you agree to or place an order with a vendor that is, or may be, subject to the reporting threshold, you are required to report it as a debt on a 48-Hour Report in the 13 days before an election.

To file a 48-Hour Report, login to the eFiling website and enter the transaction. The system will automatically make a special 48-Hour report for you to file. The report must then be completely filed - just entering the transaction will not meet the filing requirements.
